Scientific Metrology
Scientific Metrology is the fundamental bedrock of national infrastructure. The metrology standards of each country play an important role to advanced research, industrial manufacturing, international trade, the improvement of life quality, and the protection of the global environment. The realization and operation of the primary standards, which are recognized through the global metrology networking, are the basic tasks of a national metrology institute. This work has also derived measurement technologies for the applications of various sectors, and consequently the measurement results of all users possess the traceability to the primary standards of International System of Units (Système International d'Unités, SI). It ensures and provides the global connections of economy and modern science.
Being an associate state of the General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM) and a signatory to the Mutual Recognition Arrangement of the International Committee of Weights and Measures (CIPM MRA), the calibration and measurement capabilities of our National Measurement Laboratory are traced to international measurement standards and recognized by other countries.
Furthermore, our National Measurement Laboratory also participates in the Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP), which is a grouping of national metrology institutes (NMIs) from the Asia-Pacific region engaged in improving regional metrological capability through the sharing of expertise and exchange of technical services among laboratories. APMP is also a Regional Metrology Organization (RMO) recognized by the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) for the purpose of worldwide mutual recognition of measurement standards and of calibration and measurement certificates.
